The first preparatory meeting for the Forum for non-governmental organizations in Syria, attended by representatives of and non-governmental organizations and association in Syria, which undersigned, the debates focus about the importance of the role of civil society in the assessment of the Barcelona Declaration, and support its applications, to do not become just a state. In the discussion of the Barcelona Declaration have gone seriously and depth within the framework of international and country changes, and to reach into concrete proposals in this regard. In addition to the dialogue on the growing role of civil society, and the work which assigned to it, and the need to work on the independence of civil society organizations from governments and the role of human rights organizations in that. As consistent with the vision of the non-governmental civil action in a framework of independence that are running on criticism and evaluation of government’s steps, with a view to formulating a vision of non-governmental push in the direction of different steps reflect the interests and aspirations of the peoples on the basis of the principles of human, political, social and cultural rights.
It was agreed to establish a Syrian platform to work on the civilian non-governmental voice in the framework of the Euro-Mediterranean Partnership, according to the vision and objectives of serving the common interests of the peoples of the region. It also seeks platform in conjunction with other national platforms in the southern Mediterranean countries to develop a vision to enhance the South in particular demands and objectives of the peoples of the South and study the impact of the Euro-Mediterranean partnership agreement on these peoples.
The Platform will serve to invite a broader number of organizations and non-governmental bodies in Syria, of all its work areas and orientations, or specialties, along with many of the characters actors and stakeholders, and which raises visions and positions on issues of development and reform, to participate in this forum and support of this motion.
At the end of the meeting was elected Dr. Ammar Qurabi An coordinator of the platform in Syria.
