For the second time and in less than a year, After Kampala meeting in 2008, The Arab Coalition for Darfur addresses The Organization of the Islamic Conference which is represented by the Foreign Ministers of the Islamic Countries in their meeting in Damascus from 22-23 May 2009. Meantime, The Coalition calls for a serious and immediate action to end up the sufferings of people of Darfur region, due to the continuing armed conflict on its land which took place 6 years ago, where hundreds of villages were burned and thousands of women and girls were raped. In addition to the continuing aggression on the humanitarian organizations and their personnel, this resulted in millions of displaced people and refugees inside and outside Darfur who are lacking the basic nutritional needs and the necessary health care.
The Organizations and Members of The Arab Coalition for Drafur express their deep concern on the humanitarian situation there, especially after expelling the international relief organizations. And, we confirm that what is happening now is an outcome of making no positive steps to influence the Sudanese government from one side and the armed movements from the other, and to get them to disarm and negotiate to solve this conflict through ways and peaceful means.
Hence, The Arab Coalition for Darfur calls on you to:
1- Exert pressure on all conflict’s parties to stop the acts of armed violence, which mainly harms the civilians.
2- Support and protect the UNAMID forces and strengthen it to perform its peaceful role in protecting civilians and to make sure that all conflict’s parties are committed to peaceful solutions and disarmament of weapons.
3- Work on solving the conflict between Sudan and Chad, and the clashes of borders between them.
4- Drop the Sudanese government decision of expelling the humanitarian organizations of Darfur to preserve the people’s right in Darfur region to live and to provide the basic retirements for them.
5- Form a committee to follow up the decisions of the Organization of the Islamic Conference about Drafur region and to involve the civil society organizations in this committee.
6- Form a fact-finding committee from the Organization of the Islamic Conference to visit Darfur and issue a report about the visit and publish it.
